In Search of Roseblossoms: A Fairy Tale Cottage Garden with a dash of Pizzazz

“The garden is quite a love… I go and refresh myself every now and then, and then come back to Solitary Coolness.”

– Jane Austen

A profusion of pink roses bending ragged in the rain speaks to me of all gentleness and its enduring.
– William Carlos Williams

The world is a rose; smell it and pass it to your friends.
– Persian Proverb

We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.
– Abraham Lincoln

The main aim of the Roseblossoms posts are to  feature flowers and various kinds of gardens in their splendour and captured in various art forms, especially through photography. From time to time, I’ll get a little academic and discuss the influences and inspiration gardens, especially but not only rosegardens, have had on writers and artists, as well as those who plant or benefit from them in some way.

If it is a rose garden, cottage garden, flower show, designed flowers product for events such as weddings and funerals, painting or vista seen through the lens of a camera or video. it will all be posted here.

I  am on a crusade to find out what roses and gardens in general can teach us abut ourselves and how gardens can be used to enhance our lives and lift our spirits.

Sometimes, a post will just be a picture or photograph requiring your simple appreciation, as in sitting back and just gawking at their exquisite beauty; commenting on the raw emotion it evokes in you in wonderment of the sheer perfection of the art in the image,

Cottage Garden with Pizzazz

So, earlier today, I was researching the subject roseblossoms in preparation for this post when I stumbled upon this delightful YouTube video posted under the channel name, GrannieAnnie. It’s a 12 minute captioned video tour of a beautiful and lush cottage garden in Delaware, Maryland. I love this garden which covers quite a lot of land space, and has an abundant mix of  shrubs, beautiful flowers, pools, nooks, arches, cobbled walkways and fauna.

The movie treatment of it, with a selection of classical background instrumental music overlays, special effects, story board, some serious behind -the-scenes classical piano talent (identified as a 15 year old boy, Peter) and a bit of fun thrown in by the gardener’s grand daughters all add a dash of pizzazz and festivity to create an entertaining production for what could have been an ordinary garden tour.

For all of us dreaming of gardens like this, here is a chance to vicariously enjoy the ambiance of this one. The video is a little long, so why not kick off your shoes, stretch out on your lounge chair or sofa and take in the lush vista of a glamourised cottage garden?
